The Cheek Monster

Our pediatrician has an obsession.  It’s kind of odd, but he’s obsessed with cheeks.  He talks about cheeks.  He pinches cheeks.  He even told us that Cake won the “Cheek of the Week” contest when she was born (I’m sure he tells that to all the mothers but it still illustrates the point).

Tangent (but it relates)

Peanut has decided that she is afraid of doctors.  I mean, really who can blame her with all the doc visits she has had and all the blood work they have ordered on her.  When ever we are going to go to the doctor I always try to prepare her by telling her ahead of time where we are going and why.  This time she started going on about how she was afraid of the doctor and she didn’t want to go. When asked why she was afraid Peanut said “Because he will get my cheeks!”

Apparently Peanut noticed his obsession like I did.

haha! Sounds like my pediatrician, Dr. S. Maybe we see the same one? I have been seen there my whole life, (until I got married at age 21) in fact, his partner is the doc who saved my life at 6 weeks of age by telling my mother I had meniningitis by taking 1 look at me, and then demanding the hospital treat me for it. Even after my poor mother had 3 failed attempts of trying to get them to see me. Turns out he was 100% right, and I lived. (obviously) Anyway, I love the cheek obsession. My boys love it, and I love watching gunnar get his cheeks pinched, and look at me like, “who does this guy think he is?!” Anyway, just had to share. =0)

Oh and by the way, if it is the same doc I am thinking of, they are absolutely FABULOUS! The best, in my opinion. =0)

Yes, Dr. S. I think we do have the same guy. I totally agree with you on his Fabulosity. He’s always done an amazing job with my girls. Every specialist he has referred us to has also been wonderful. With Peanut he called around until he found out which hospital the best pediatric cardiologist in the state was at that day and sent us there. Did you know he’s the head of peds at his hospital? The cool thing about that is when he refers you to people he refers you to the head of other departments.

“He’ll pinch my cheeks. I hate that.”

    “Maybe he won’t.”

    “How’s the sicky?” [pinches cheek]

“I think I’ll leave you two guys alone.”
