Birthday Song!

Well, I’ve finally picked a birthday song.  I thought of this one a LONG time ago but I was hoping to find one that was a little easier to explain why I chose it, and a little less personal, but I’ve not found one so here we go.

The Script – Superheroes

I know parts of this song sound super depressing but to me they are not, they have hope.  What it means to me is that all the challenges in my life (not that I’ve had a super hard life) are things that have and that will make me grow and be stronger.  I particularly think about this song in the context of my depression.  The fight against it has taught me so much, has made me more understanding and has given me more compassion.  Fighting it has made me stronger.

When you win these kind of battles it teaches you to fly.  Some days I fly.  Some days, you fly too.

“Superheroes”

All her life she has seen
All the meaner side of me
They took away the prophet’s dream for a profit on the street

Now she’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

All his life he’s been told
He’ll be nothing when he’s old
All the kicks and all the blows
He won’t ever let it show

‘Cause he’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

All the hurt, all the lies
All the tears that they cry
When the moment is just right
You see fire in their eyes

‘Cause he’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

(Power, power, power, power, power)
(Power, power, power, power, power)

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

(Power, power, power, power, power)
(Power, power, power, power, power)

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

She’s got lions in her heart
A fire in her soul
He’s got a beast in his belly
That’s so hard to control
‘Cause they’ve taken too much hits
Taking blow by blow
Now light a match, stand back, watch them explode

She’s got lions in her heart
A fire in her soul
He’s a got a beast in his belly
That’s so hard to control
‘Cause they’ve taken too much hits
Taking blow by blow
Now light a match, stand back, watch them explode, explode, explode, explode

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

(Power, power, power, power, power)
Oh, yeah…
(Power, power, power, power, power)

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

(Power, power, power, power, power)
(Power, power, power, power, power)

Ooh, yeah
Whoa

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

Birthday Song

So, this year I had a little bit of a hard time with my birthday.

I turned 35, I don’t want to be 35, it’s way to close to 40 and the idea of 40 makes me feel old, so I feel close to old. I am starting missing being in my 20’s.  Not that my life isn’t great, because it is, but that’s how I feeling.

My birthday curse came into effect on the day I was celebrating my birthday.  I went to a salon and I was going to get my nails done, have a massage, and have my eyebrows threaded.

The place no longer did threading, even though the website said it did.

The massage therapist was a man so I declined, (only do female doctors and female massage therapist, sorry, that’s just how I roll) they tried to get one of their girl massage therapist in and that didn’t happen.

I did however have a great mani/pedi and I tried gelish for the first time and it’s the only thing I’ve ever had besides acrylic nails that I didn’t ruin within five minutes of leaving the salon, and it’s cheaper and it didn’t tare up my real nails.  I’ve found a new manicure product.

So, for the Birthday Song.

Lemonade by Alex Boye’.  I feel like this is the lesson I’ve been taught, learning to be happy even when things are not perfect, because they never are, learning that focusing on the good makes life sweet.

LEMONADE by Alex Boye

I’m just so broke you won’t believe
Can’t get a dollar out of me
And as far as I can see
I’m losing control like a bad disease
No I just can’t get relief
I’ve been shot down by the life police,
And everyday I try to rise
But I can’t succeed
Can anybody find a cure for me?
You can be bitter, bitter, bitter
Or you can be better, better, better

When life gives you lemons
Instead of champagne
Don’t worry little children
And don’t complain (woh)
Remember you’re golden
So find some sugar cane
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

Hama kama hama kama heyama kama
Hama kama hama kama heyama kama
Now everyday is like a brand new year,
I throw my hands up in the air
Like I just don’t care,
I’m moon walking down the streets
Feeling like oh yeah (oh yeah!)
like the bottom of the glass now I see clear
So now I laugh just a little more (Yeeheheee!)
I stand taller than I did before (Yahahaa!)
I know I’m not where I need to be
But I thank God that I’m not
where I used to be,
I used to be bitter, bitter bitter
And now I feel better, better, better

When life gives you lemons
Instead of champagne
Don’t worry little children
And don’t complain (woh)
Remember you’re golden
So find some sugar cane
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

Hama kama hama

I was saved for a reason
That I can’t explain
Got something new to believe in
I’m awakened again (who woh)
So many miracles are
Happening each day
If I can just get out of (Elelele)
My own way

When life gives you lemons
Instead of champagne
Don’t worry little children
And don’t complain (woh)
Remember you’re golden
So find some sugar cane
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

Le-le-le-le-Lemonade
Lemony-lemony-le-lemonade
Lemo-lemo, Woo!

When life gives you lemons
Instead of champagne
Don’t worry little children
And don’t complain (woh)
Remember you’re golden
So find some sugar cane
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

Le-le-le-le-Lemonade
Lemony-lemony-le-lemonade
Lemo-lemo, Woo!

Birthday Song for 34

Or if you are Husband, 29, again. Sometime I’ll have to write about Husband keeping me perpetually 29, but that’s a post for another day.

So, I’ve picked a song for this year. See this post for what I’m talking about. One day I’ll actually have it chosen on my birthday.

Here’s the song.

Regina Spektor – The Call

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
Til it was a battle cry

I’ll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Just because everything’s changing
Doesn’t mean it’s never
Been this way before

All you can do is try to know
Who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light

You’ll come back
When it’s over
No need to say good bye

You’ll come back
When it’s over
No need to say good bye

Now we’re back to the beginning
It’s just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can’t feel it too
Doesn’t mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
Til they’re before your eyes

You’ll come back
When they call you
No need to say good bye

You’ll come back
When they call you
No need to say good bye

Birthday Song

I finally picked a Birthday Song this year.

Michael Meets Mozart – 1 Piano, 2 Guys, 100 Cello Tracks

I case you did not know,I pick a song each year that I feel represents the last six months and how I feel about the upcoming six months.  I’ve been doing it since I was sixteen.

I’ve only picked an instrumental one other year.  One of the reasons that I feel like this is the right song for this year just the layers of things going on, the complication…there is a sadness, a joy a stress, a peace, everything.  Welcome to my life.

Birthday Song

So I finally picked a birthday song for this year.

This is Love

by The Script

It’s in the eyes of the children
As they leave for the very first time
And it’s in the heart of the soldier
As he takes a bullet on the front line
It’s in the face of a mother
As she takes the force of a blow
And its in the hands of the father yeah
As he works his fingers to the bone yeah

I’m standing under a white flag oh
Can you see me oh, can you see me oh
I’m standing for everything we have oh
Can you hear me oh, can you hear me

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is why we bow down and get back up again
This is where the heart lies, this is from above
Love is this, this is love

Love is why we do it love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down, get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

This is love, This is love, This is love

It’s in the soul of a city
What it does after it crumbles and burns
And it’s in the blood of a hero
To know where he goes he may never return yeah

I’m standing under a white flag oh
Can you see me oh, can you see me oooh
I’m standing for everything we have oh
Can you hear me oh, can you hear me

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is why we bow down, get back up again
This is where the heart lies this is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down, get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

This is love, this is love ..

Bridge (rap)
If you could be anywhere that you wanted to be
With anyone that you wanted to be with
Do anything that you wanted to do
What would it be and who would it be with you
Time flies but you’re the pilot
It moves real fast but you’re the driver
You may crash and burn sometimes

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is where we bow down get back up again
This is where the heart lies this is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it, love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

(This is love!)

Birthday Song

This is no where near my birthday, but I was listening to some songs yesterday and it made me think about something I’ve done since I was a teenager. Ever year I pick out a new Birthday Song for the year. I really think of it as a song for the six months before my birthday and what I think the next six months will be like. Here’s my birthday song list.

Secure yourself to Heaven – Indigo Girls

Theme Song to Spider Man – Abe Lincoln

Kid Fears – Indigo Girls

If I Stand – Jars of Clay

The Whole Armor of God – Book of Mormon Soundtrack

Breathing – Life House

Song –Two Lost Souls

Don’t Know Why – Norah Jones

I am a Child of God – LDS Hymns

2000 Years – Billy Joel

You Raise Me Up – Celtic Woman

Do you have anything you do to symbolize the year?
