Birthday Song

I finally picked a Birthday Song this year.

Michael Meets Mozart – 1 Piano, 2 Guys, 100 Cello Tracks

I case you did not know,I pick a song each year that I feel represents the last six months and how I feel about the upcoming six months.  I’ve been doing it since I was sixteen.

I’ve only picked an instrumental one other year.  One of the reasons that I feel like this is the right song for this year just the layers of things going on, the complication…there is a sadness, a joy a stress, a peace, everything.  Welcome to my life.

Birthday Song

So I finally picked a birthday song for this year.

This is Love

by The Script

It’s in the eyes of the children
As they leave for the very first time
And it’s in the heart of the soldier
As he takes a bullet on the front line
It’s in the face of a mother
As she takes the force of a blow
And its in the hands of the father yeah
As he works his fingers to the bone yeah

I’m standing under a white flag oh
Can you see me oh, can you see me oh
I’m standing for everything we have oh
Can you hear me oh, can you hear me

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is why we bow down and get back up again
This is where the heart lies, this is from above
Love is this, this is love

Love is why we do it love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down, get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

This is love, This is love, This is love

It’s in the soul of a city
What it does after it crumbles and burns
And it’s in the blood of a hero
To know where he goes he may never return yeah

I’m standing under a white flag oh
Can you see me oh, can you see me oooh
I’m standing for everything we have oh
Can you hear me oh, can you hear me

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is why we bow down, get back up again
This is where the heart lies this is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down, get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

This is love, this is love ..

Bridge (rap)
If you could be anywhere that you wanted to be
With anyone that you wanted to be with
Do anything that you wanted to do
What would it be and who would it be with you
Time flies but you’re the pilot
It moves real fast but you’re the driver
You may crash and burn sometimes

This is why we do it this is worth the pain
This is where we bow down get back up again
This is where the heart lies this is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it, love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down get back up again
Love is where the heart lies love is from above
Love is this, this is love

(This is love!)

Missing You…

I can’t remember the name of a song, or anything besides just one little part…that’ drives me crazy.  I wanted to post the lyrics because the part I can remember is about missing you.  And I’m missing Husband right now so it seemed approprate.  So just instert, in your mind, the lyrics to a song about missing someone on to the end of this post.

Theme Songs

Ever wonder who wrote your favorite intro or theme song to a show you like?  I’ve noticed that more and more shows lately have really cool into music.  It used to be that only movies could spend money of having great music.  I’d like a cd composed completely of some of those theme songs.

Miami Ink, Psych, Veronica Mars, and Monk have some of my favorites.

I’ve also noticed that shows are often randomly inserting a scene with a band just to showcase a song…what’s up with that?

What’s your favorite theme song?

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing

When I was on my mission I heard “Come, Thou Fount of every blessing” for the first time.  Two of the Elders in my district sang it as part of district meeting.  I’ve loved it ever since.  I’ll put the lyrics at the end of the post for those of you who have not heard it.  It used to be in the LDS hymnal, it’s not any more.  I wonder why they removed it.

I’ve noticed that their are several hymns in the hymnal that don’t get sung very often.  Some of my favorite hymns are among the less commonly sung.  For example, “Adam-ondi-Ahman” and “If you could hie to Kolob.”

What’s your favorite hymn?  What’s your favorite hymn that doesn’t get sung very often?

1. Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.

2. Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.

3. Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.

4. O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.

The Dance Machine

I am sure that I have previously mentioned Cake’s affinity for music.  She has always enjoyed it.  Recently, as her ability to control the movement of her body she has begun dancing to show her enjoyment of music.  If you’ve got kids I’m sure you’ve seen it, the little baby butt dance, but with Cake it’s more the little baby whole-body dance.  When she really get’s into it she falls over a lot because she’s flinging herself around so much.  I’ve been trying different music out on her to see what produces the most energetic dancing.  At the moment her favorite seems to be Everything by Michael Buble.  Who knew she would be a jazz fan?

Birthday Song

This is no where near my birthday, but I was listening to some songs yesterday and it made me think about something I’ve done since I was a teenager. Ever year I pick out a new Birthday Song for the year. I really think of it as a song for the six months before my birthday and what I think the next six months will be like. Here’s my birthday song list.

Secure yourself to Heaven – Indigo Girls

Theme Song to Spider Man – Abe Lincoln

Kid Fears – Indigo Girls

If I Stand – Jars of Clay

The Whole Armor of God – Book of Mormon Soundtrack

Breathing – Life House

Song –Two Lost Souls

Don’t Know Why – Norah Jones

I am a Child of God – LDS Hymns

2000 Years – Billy Joel

You Raise Me Up – Celtic Woman

Do you have anything you do to symbolize the year?
